Quite recently, Lukas made an interesting observation about Feng Shui masters. He noted that Lilian Too was very strict and straightforward whereas Joey Yap gave people alternatives, practical ways to follow the beliefs.
We all know what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 6:14. “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” Yes, that’s what most, if not the majority of churches has been trumpeting us with all the years!
Have you thought about “Why is it unwise for a follower of Christ to marry an unbeliever?”
To answer the question, firstly you have to remove all your preconceptions, stereotypes and prejudgment of Believers and Non-Believers. One of the most “painful” ones to me is that, we will be influenced by the non-believing partner and turn to their gods. It indirectly implies that the Christian faith I have (or We have) is very weak and fragile.
Very insulting indeed.
Our Daily Bread (a Christian devotion) seems to offer a practical alternative citing 1 Peter 3:1
Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives.
To me, it sounds like.. to the ladies who can’t find a good Christian man, just be submissive to your non-Christian husband so that you might influence them.
Ok, so the context might be cultural. But we have to be careful when playing the “out of context” game when interpreting the bible, because it could be as easy to backfire against our ideology.
It seems quite unfair that Peter did not gave men an option. He seems to prejudge that men are weak and cannot “control our woman!” I don’t blame him, because “Are we human, or are we dancers?”
