In response to Lukas Foo

Refer to lukas.foo regarding legality of a Catan move.
I do love a healthy lively debate, so here goes!
First off, upon execution of the move, you let out an unusual giggle and barbaric laughter. That itself shows the dubious nature and intent of your move. But that’s ok, lets prove it with some logic.
Secondly, your source is Yahoo! Answers. The “chosen answer by asker” probably was in a situation like you. I feel its like a medical surgeon citing wikipedia on how to remove a growth in a patient’s testicles. If you wanna put $100 on whether you’re right, heck.. i’ll take the time and set up catan-official-club.com with a forum with manipulated results saying I’m right.
However, if you already had your own road built past your opponent’s settlement like below, then you would be able to continue on. It’s just that you would have a more difficult time regaining/holding on to Longest Road since you can only add to your LR requirement from one side at a time and not by building roads from either end.
(this was the quote)
To me, the move doesn’t make sense. Orange (you) build your road towards the port. Blue chops your road, thus leaving your 3rd segment an orphan. Access is essentially cut to the “port”. If you still insist on building that port, you’re essentially placing a settlement that is NOT connected to your first 2 settlements (of the game).
We know in the rules that once a road is “chopped”, it doesn’t count to your longest road BECAUSE it is not connected. How then, can you continue expansion on a road that leads nowhere. Its like Malaysia decides to build a road from Johor, to Woodlands to Jurong. uh-oh.. Singapore chop off Malaysia’s road at Woodlands. HOW THE HECK can Malaysia build at Jurong, just because we have a small piece of road over there?
I’ve got much more to say about this issue, but its almost 8am. Don’t make me set up catan-official-club.com ;)
