Lee Chong Wei Badminton Psychology

Lee Chong Wei, All England 2010 WINNER!
I observed a few things about the style of play:
1. Set 1, first 3 rally. Purposely lose easily. Why? Cuz the Japanese dude would be so over-enthusiastic to show his Aces. LCW says, “Show me whatchu got?”. Now all the plans and schemes that the coach teach, revealed in 3 hands. How sneaky.
2. Confidence. Eh, why is the World Number 1 playing so badly at the start? But of course, it’s a psychological game.
3. Mid game. I notice that in a 21 point game (the standard for badminton), points between 5-15 are the “psychology block” points. Why? You don’t really know where you are. Say, you’re 11-3 up on LCW. Is that good? Is the job done? How much room have I got for error?
Trick: Once you sort that out, do your homework. Make sure you know the difference between 11-3, and 11-10 for example. Little things that distract you.
4. First game ended well. Most winning plays come from ability to defend. Some may critisize LCW’s defensive plays. But tiring out the opponent. Man, I really admire that. I love making and seeing people run around the court while I return effortlessly. It frustrates the opponent!
5. ok, Set 2 was merely capitalising on the lessons learnt from Set 1. It was a good tactic, one which paid off, to explore what your opponent can do, his weakness, his style and how he plans to overcome you. Then YOU overcome him.
6. A bit complacent at the closing stages. But nerves very well kept under control. Good job!
Off to a good night sleep =) Happy new week, ya’ll!
