I was given a copy of P1 NetSecure to test out.

What this product is, is a total Internet security solution. They’ve got Firewall, Antivirus, Spam filter and a host of other tools to ensure the bad guys don’t get on your computer and steal your information.

I won’t bore you with the technicalities, but upon running it on my system, it detected 2 malwares on my USB drive:

Result: 2 malware found
Trojan-PSW:W32/Magania.TLP (virus)

* G:\9qqigqwf.exe Action: renamed

Worm:W32/Palevo.BT (virus)

* G:\STARA\ljubav.exe Action: renamed

The file names really got me there. P1 NetSecure’s deep scanning on invisible files is truly amazing. It saw files I couldn’t see through “traditional means”. Like,  “folder options -> view -> hidden & invisible files” used to uncover a lot of hidden virus or system files. This goes one step further.

The most common worry about installing an Antivirus solution is the footprint. How much resources does it suck? I’m pleased to report that on my 2 year old computer, it is very minimal.

From a business perspective, F-Secure teamed up with P1 WiMax (an ISP) to offer a monthly subscription based model. For RM 5.99 per month / 1 license or a RM 7.99 per month / 3 license, you and your family can have a peace of mind knowing your data is safe.

Throughout the marketing presentation, the F-Secure guy mentioned “heuristic”, “speed” and “working with ISP”.

The technology F-Secure uses is to learn the patterns of virus and learn from past experience. While it may not always be correct, a huge team of specialist are working to verify threats and assess whether websites are safe for users. One thing that is important in this industry is speed in which a virus is found. The automatic update feature will grab the latest updates for definitions, and any new phishing or malicious websites are automatically blocked.

Give it a try. They’ve got a 7 day trial.
