Trains

July song of the week: Gaga -  Monster

I am a big fan of trains.

I am fortunate to have experience a few different trains throughout my life.

The earliest was the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s Intercity train. At the age of 4 (circa 1990) I went with the family to Bangkok. Not sure the specifics, but it was a day and night, and day trip. The double decker beds were kinda nice. And I’m sure, with friends, it will be an awesome experience. To my knowledge, the journey is relatively safe and the Southern Thailand violence? There’s nothing to be worried or concerned about =)

Hong Kong. Went there before the handover, and tried the MTR (like MRT) which goes under the sea. From New Territory to Kowloon, I think. That was back way way in 1997. Then, I tried the Paddington Express from London Heathrow airport to the city center. Holy cow, it was expensive. Speed and convenience wise, yes, it’s awesome. Apparently London taxi is out of the question! On the same trip, we rode on the Eurostar to Paris, and Lucern in Switzerland. That was fast. But I didn’t really keep track how fast it was going.

Closer to home, on a trip to Vietnam, dad and I got on the train on a 3 days 2 nights “journey” from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi in the north. It’s a 1000+km journey, and we made stops. KTM has double decker, and the top bunk is pretty cramped. In Vietnam inter-city train, they have triple deck! It is facing each other so there’s up to 6 people crammed in the most smallest of spaces. Ahh.. good times.

Within Malaysia, I have tried all public trains on service. The all reliable Rapid KL LRT trains from Kelana Jaya to town, the cute little Monorail to the heart of Bukit Bintang, the cheap but unreliable KTM Kommuter bringing me to Subang, the 30 minute airport train KLIA Ekspress, the Star LRT (now managed by Rapid KL) bringing me to Sogo, PWTC and Pudu area.

On ice-breaker yesterday at cell, I asked “Would you prefer Flight or Train?” The consensus seem to be of course, plane.

On the subject of transport, here is Tony himself on the first AirAsia flight to Singapore on February 1st, 2008.

At the 1 minute mark, lady asks about Mauritius? No. Then Australia? listen to his answer.. (hint: you probably know the answer!)

Shakes hand. “Wanna take a picture?”

Happiest moment of my life; thus far

On Friday, I will go to Ipoh and back on the 3 hour shuttle train. It makes less stops, and I will be travelling with a camera man shooting an interview at this place called Indulgence.

Wish me luck!
