Whose fault is it?

Last Sunday, at the Turkish Grand Prix in Turkey, the two red bull cars clashed when they were comfortably leading 1-2.

Here’s the rare moment of stupidity.

At first glance, I reacted naturally like other and many race fans around the world:

“How stupid and immature is Sebastian Vettel?!?!?”

From the camera replays from various angles, it seems as though it is HIS fault. And I have to agree with that.

Mark Webber is getting all the symphaty and praise for being matured while Vettel the young German is being blasted and labelled for his “crazy gesture directed to Webber”.

Lukas summed it up perfectly in 3 tweets.

public opinion all side with Webber but Red Bull’s management somehow seem to side with Vettel…

how webber responded to the media showed how matured Webber was about it while it also showed how childish Vettel was…

looks like a replay of Hamilton/Alonso war tat happend a few yrs back at Mclaren…

Playing devil’s advocate, one can easily argue 3 counter-points.

1. If Webber is so mature, why not he back off knowing Vettel is so immature, and lack experience? It’s 1-2 anyway, and 43 points for the team instead of what they eventually got, 15 points :(

2. I see where the Red Bull managers is coming from. Yes, Webber was lacking in pace and the McLarens were hot on their heels. Yes, the information was relayed to both Red Bull drivers. But the F1 ban on “team orders” meant that there CANNOT be a directive for one driver to move aside for another. Legally, at least. Brings us back to the whole team orders debate. It was sparked when Rubinho moved over for Schummi back in Ferrari days. It was a disgrace. Now, with the ban in place, see what we’ve done!

3. Rivalvy between team mates are inevitable, therefore

Therefore, the pecking order must be defined at the start of the Season. Of course you wanna win, but you gotta have the vision, like the Red Bull corporate bosses, who can see the bigger picture (and not instinctively blame Vettel for his lapse of judgement!)

Happy June everyone!
