I’m looking through the sales video pitch by Apple for their iPhone models through time. The genius in this respect is Steve Jobs himself. Yes, there are great engineers and designers working for him, but the final product decisions ultimately gets decided by Steve.
It started in 2007 with the first one. It was new, it was the only “one of the kind” out there. 3 devices in 1 was the marketing pitch. “Phone, iPod, Internet Browser”. 3 things that a gadget person would like. No non-sense product specs on Bluetooth, SD Card slot or technical jargons. Just plain English. Phone, Music Player, Internet browser, no buttons, touch screen, fun.
2008 – iPhone 3G. Started with a major software update for iOS. Steve shows a demo downloading an e-mail attachment. EDGE (18 sec), 3G (5 sec), WiFi (3 sec). Instant sale with words like “up to 3.6 X faster”. Thinner at the edge, dramatically improved Audio, feels better in your hands, better battery life and added GPS capability and a super cheap price of US$199 (RM 650!) Released in 22 countries, so that is amazing. More buzz in more parts of the world.
2009 – iPhone 3GS. Steve was on a sick leave. Phil Shiller presented. Boring. Emphasis on “Fast, Speed”. Run SunSpider benchmark, 2-3 x faster in opening common Apps. Added 3G HSDPA, so.. theoretically faster. Camera is nicer 3mpx autofocus, high emphasized. Video recording.
2010 – iPhone 4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1edQuxclUs I think it’s Steve Job’s best “show”. He is an entertainer!
I am convinced the next update will be forth-coming, and will be in some ways… minimal. iPad 2 is the one to look out for.
** 7 pm update, liigghtbullb! **
Kevin Rose said: “The reason why Facebook want to keep to under 500 share holders and don’t wanna go IPO yet… they don’t have to disclose financial information. They don’t want YOU to know how much money they’re making from Zynya (Farmville, Poker, social games).
Their latest investment Goldman Sachs of US$ 500 mln buffs up their valuation to the region of US$ 50 bln, and Zuckerberg to net US $ 7 bln in stock. Amazed? Well if people know that Zynga / social games are making over 60% of Facebook’s revenue (and not Advertisements as many people assume), then people will go “OMG” and poof, all the virtual billions in the world will evaporate.
Watch this week’s diggnation”

New iPod Touches?
By 2nd September, Thursday, our mouths will be drooling and frothing for yet another Apple product. This time round, it probably will be refreshed iPods. The Touch with FaceTime will take center stage. Potentially it can do VOIP via Skype, so essentially it is a dumbed down iPhone 4
Dinner
Yesterday whilst having dinner with a bunch of college kids (heh, I feel so old) I saw how culture has changed. Got to the restaurant, sat on the table and everybody whipped out their smart phone. Small bursts of conversation still goes on, and laughter aplenty. But the main center of attention is all about their iPhones and Nokias and Touches.
No longer is there eye contact. Maybe briefly, but much of the conversation is filled with “huhs?” because they were engrossed with the gadgets. It’s funny how we make a point to meet up but spend time more on the clickety-clack of the keypads.
Getting Married?
In cell group, I had too much laughter. The charades 2.0 game was awsm and the lesson that day was how to look good, presentable, and how to give a good first impression. Now, that is some practical advise! And I have a sense the cell is pushing for members to get married asap. Cuz, if not, it would be an “unhealthy relationship”. THEY DIDN’T SAY THAT, but I’m guessing it is implying that young adult’s current stay-together arrangement brings more problems in the long run. And as with the church’s position, a strong community begins with a strong family.
Meaningful conversations
Spoke with George (Twitter). He’s a guy with interesting stands and views. I like people who push the limits and has a different perspective to the norms. One thing to keep in mind: It is important to keep your feet on the ground, and know when to back off.
Character
I’m the argumentative type. Just like a trouble-maker, I find joy in poking people. I like to challenge their beliefs, to un-reason their reasoning and to make them subscribe to my beliefs (haha, nah, not so much nowadays…) For a long period, I was an Apple Evangelist.
I still believe in Apple; but now that they’re this big bully in the playing field, I tend to shy away!
Efficiency
Signing off with one of my favouritetopics. Three tips I’d like to share with you:
1. When walking, walk straight. You may seem like a robot. Your path may not be conventional. But trust me, you’re doing a whole world of good. “Take the RACING LINE“
2. Decisions. Some decisions might not be time CRITICAL, but it sure is time sensitive. Example: Choosing where to go for dinner. Whilst I won’t die waiting 10 more minutes for you to decide, (or what to eat) I’d really appreciate some form of “orderly decision making process” where we are accountable to one another, considerate to the budget constrains, yet make a compromise so that the least amount of members of the party is inconvenienced. Phew. That was a mouthful.
3. Prioritise. We all have 24 hours a day and x amount of salary per month. 53% of the world lives on under US$2 a month. In every sense of the word, we are all filthy rich. How do you spend your time? How do you spend your money?
That’s about it lah.

[When the current iPod Touch 2009 didn't come with camera, you can feel the rage half way around the world. Let's see if Apple fixes that problem; and give us one or two more surprises!]

Today I came in the office a bit early.
I took the RapidKL bus to KL Sentral (RM 2.50) KL Sentral stop -> monorail (RM 1) cuz I’m too lazy to walk 1 km. Then I took the monorail to Raja Chulan (RM 2.30).
Had the RapidPass Integrasi, which allowed me limitless travelling on LRT, busses and Monorail. Have yet to fully utilise it, but I’m so far happy with it, sans the bus experiences where the TnG reader is not working. :-( grr..
3 things I wanna share with you:

Update: As of mid March 2010, the grooves on these Crocs are totally gone. They are bald! Maybe I overused them! Time for new ones?
Tomorrow, I will be collecting a pair of Crocs sandles, thanks to my lovely sister, Olivia :) [edit: here it is! in yellow]

Tonight will be a good night, where Liverpool and Arsenal will draw 2-2 with Torres to score first. United to dive to the lead with a convincing win and a Chelsea slip up. [edit: epic phailure. the game in sunday night and man utd fail to capitalise on a chelsea cock up]
Ah.. one can dream, can’t he?
5 things I wanna comment on tonight:
1. Astro HD, step in the right direction. Football in HD = win. But does the RM 20+ premium justify 2 extra HD sports channels? And don’t get me started on the rain fade issue.
2. Wow, 25 points for Winner of a Formula 1 grand prix race. Very nice, but will it screw things up? Nice to see many cars on the grid. Wow, this time, I think I’ll go with the Hamilton-Button british team! Mmmm…
3. Nice to meet the OUG CG of 2006 again, after such a long time. It was truly heart warming.
4. It would be nice if we can make a trip to Genting or Penang in the next 10 days! Anyone up for a trip?
5. On a short term, low key thing, how about a bowling or cycling trip (Bkt Cahaya, Shah Alam)? Or, even Go-kart?

Oh, and went to Taylor’s lakeside with Patrick. Discovered the wonders of the Machine they call an iMac. The iChat feature was awsm.

Both my final marketing subjects emphasize on predicting trends.
Its all about reacting to the situation, and adjusting your goals and objectives to these changes.
It also means a bit of guesswork, like.. England to win 3-1 early tomorrow morning.
But more importantly, we need to look out for Apple.com and your local Online store!!!!

The numbers speak for themselves.
For a product that receives a *bump* on average of half a year, you’d be a fool to buy a one year old product. It doesn’t really matter whether you get it on Day 1 or Day 364, you still pay the same freaking RM 1229 for the 16GB iPod Touch!
By 1 am (Malaysian time) the dust would have settled as to what new product Apple will be releasing. I would like to venture in to the RM 1229 price point cuz that’s the one I *hope* my dad will get me (for studies purposes)
- 32 GB Flash memory
- 3.2 MP autofocus camera with Video Recording
- GPS & Compass
That’s all I ask. But if they can make it last longer over a single power charge, the better. How about, 10 hours of WiFi surfing?

MMM… I love you Apple. I love you Steve Jobs!
Update: Steve Jobs ranked most valuable CEO!

The rumors were right, Apple just released the Apple iPhone GOOD SHIT (S for speed, according to them). From apple.com/iphone =)

1. No front facing video camera – awww…
2. Outside THE SAME, but inside, is a beast. 2-4 x speed increase. HSPDA 7.2mbit!!! The emphasis on this new product is POWER!!!!
3. A 3MP AUTO focus camera and VIDEO recording. Hell yea!
From MacrumorsLIVE:
Also features tap-to-focus. Tap on the part of the photo you want to focus, and it automatically does so. Automatically handles exposure and white balance. Better low-light sensitivity as well. Also, auto-macro — as close as 10cm away.
| 11:55 am | Also — a digital compass. |
| 11:55 am | You can also ask “what’s playing now?” and it will tell you. Or say “play more songs like this” and a genius playlist will be built. |
| 11:54 am | With the iPhone 3GS, you hold down the home button for a second and a voice control interface is brought up. Simply say things like “Call Scott Forstall” — if there are more than one entries, it will ask which one you wanted (i.e. home, office, etc) — or “play The Killers” |
I CAN”T WAIT FOR THE MAGNETOMETER. And its applications!
Improved battery life. Now up to 9 hours of internet surfing, 10 hours of video, 30 hours of audio, 12 hours of 2g talk-time, 5 hours of 3g talk-time.
My rantings and musings weren’t so baseless after all. It really brings about better Battery , which is super important. Now the price! $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB. Comes in Black and White.
WOW>> Old models
Apple wants the iPhone to be more affordable. The existing 8GB iPhone 3G will remain — for $99. The iPhone 3GS will be available on June 19th.
Ok, time to PRE-Order people!
Ok, 5 major countries get it first, US, UK etc. Basically the rich ones. Then 6 more important countries. Like always Malaysia will be late July. Damn.
Zhou San!!! Good morning!
OK MAXIS. pls dun f* up. kthxbie.
more to follow!!!
