From Macrumors [http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1101041]

New Macbook Pros pre-Confirmed by rumor sites… i5 Sandy Bridge on the 13″ with a new Input/Output (I/O) port dubbed Thunderbolt.

Apple was first to implement 100 Base T Ethernet and USB 1.0 12 years ago on their original iMac (If you had a bottle of Chivas made when Apple standardised USB / 100 BaseT Ethernet, you’d had a good bottle by now!) They also popularised “Airport”, the 802.11 standard which had no name and no direction back then, to what is now known as 802.11b or Wifi.

Apple is pushing the bar higher with this new Intel technology, ThunderBolt.

Oh, and March 2nd, 10am PST (1 am March 3rd, GMT+8 Malaysia Time) we’re gonna see Steve Job’s last hurrah as he announces the new iPad 2.

iPad 2 rumors came moments after the iPad 1 was first announced last year! Lots of “features wish-list” was missing. Heck, if I’d get a ringgit for everytime people ask “When is the iPhone 5 coming…?” grrrr….

January 2007 – iPhone announced, 5 month wait for delivery.

September 2007 – 4GB model discontinued, comes in 8/16GB

July 2008 – iPhone 3G announced, never came to Malaysia

June 2009 – iPhone 3GS announced. Took a while for Maxis to get it. Digi had to wait til mid 2010.

June 2010 – iPhone 4 announced. Availability eased.

Based on this historical data, we can have two conclusions.

1. It is inevitable a new iPhone (or a minimalistic upgrade) will be announced in June 2011.

2. It will take “some” time for units to be widely available in Malaysia. Taking from history, if you’re on a Digi iPhone 3GS, chances are you had the latest model for only 2-4 months (!) before the iPhone 4 was announced. But luckily iPhone 4′s availability in Malaysia was 4 months after being announced in June 2010.

[/Apple fanboy-ism]

I’m looking through the sales video pitch by Apple for their iPhone models through time. The genius in this respect is Steve Jobs himself. Yes, there are great engineers and designers working for him, but the final product decisions ultimately gets decided by Steve.

It started in 2007 with the first one. It was new, it was the only “one of the kind” out there. 3 devices in 1 was the marketing pitch. “Phone, iPod, Internet Browser”. 3 things that a gadget person would like. No non-sense product specs on Bluetooth, SD Card slot or technical jargons. Just plain English. Phone, Music Player, Internet browser, no buttons, touch screen, fun.

2008 – iPhone 3G. Started with a major software update for iOS. Steve shows a demo downloading an e-mail attachment. EDGE (18 sec), 3G (5 sec), WiFi (3 sec). Instant sale with words like “up to 3.6 X faster”. Thinner at the edge, dramatically improved Audio, feels better in your hands, better battery life and added GPS capability and a super cheap price of US$199 (RM 650!) Released in 22 countries, so that is amazing. More buzz in more parts of the world.

2009 – iPhone 3GS. Steve was on a sick leave. Phil Shiller presented. Boring. Emphasis on “Fast, Speed”. Run SunSpider benchmark, 2-3 x faster in opening common Apps. Added 3G HSDPA, so.. theoretically faster. Camera is nicer 3mpx autofocus, high emphasized. Video recording.

2010 – iPhone 4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1edQuxclUs I think it’s Steve Job’s best “show”. He is an entertainer!

I am convinced the next update will be forth-coming, and will be in some ways… minimal. iPad 2 is the one to look out for.

** 7 pm update, liigghtbullb! **

Kevin Rose said: “The reason why Facebook want to keep to under 500 share holders and don’t wanna go IPO yet… they don’t have to disclose financial information. They don’t want YOU to know how much money they’re making from Zynya (Farmville, Poker, social games).

Their latest investment Goldman Sachs of US$ 500 mln buffs up their valuation to the region of US$ 50 bln, and Zuckerberg to net US $ 7 bln in stock. Amazed? Well if people know that Zynga / social games are making over 60% of Facebook’s revenue (and not Advertisements as many people assume), then people will go “OMG” and poof, all the virtual billions in the world will evaporate.

Watch this week’s diggnation”

The numbers speak for themselves.

For a product that receives a *bump* on average of half a year, you’d be a fool to buy a one year old product. It doesn’t really matter whether you get it on Day 1 or Day 364, you still pay the same freaking RM 1229 for the 16GB iPod Touch!

By 1 am (Malaysian time) the dust would have settled as to what new product Apple will be releasing. I would like to venture in to the RM 1229 price point cuz that’s the one I *hope* my dad will get me (for studies purposes)

- 32 GB Flash memory

- 3.2 MP autofocus camera with Video Recording

- GPS & Compass

That’s all I ask. But if they can make it last longer over a single power charge, the better. How about, 10 hours of WiFi surfing?

MMM… I love you Apple. I love you Steve Jobs!

Update: Steve Jobs ranked most valuable CEO!
