Uphill Climb – Q3/2024 Letter to the audience

Quarter 3 consists of in Jul-Aug-Sept

What have I done? Let’s look at the photos in my Gallery.

July – went to Planetshakers Kuala Lumpur – ate good food at Sunway Pyramid, got my tourist guide license badge, went bowling with Isaac and testing out his camera (he has a new photography hobby), so we took some pictures around Sunway Carnival, mainland Penang.

August – brought my Filipino colleagues to Ipoh. Bought some Pomelos from Stall 11 at Tambun roadside stop in Ipoh. Went out with Uncle CA Tham for a Starbucks. Went to Pantai Malindo near Balik Pulau to see the sunset with friends. Bought vegetarian birthday cake (must be 100% compliant). Said goodbye to colleagues who left the company for greener pastures. Went to Kuala Lumpur with same bunch of colleagues (Eman, Din, Rome and Mac). Got my annual blood test results – all good or (as expected), had Bak Kut Teh with Anson. Went Chinahouse with colleagues. Went to hawker food at Campbell Street. And went to IKEA for the hallway shot. Merdeka went to KL.

September – Went to Subang Airport with Shaq the comedian, went to Batu Pahat, a friend’s hometown in Johor. went to Kluang to visit uncle and his family (dad’s brother). Came back to Penang and had Antarabangsa. More trips to the airport (despite not flying). Went to premium Japanese restaurant Dozo near the airport, spent time with Alex the chef ala coder. Brought Kasvini, Hew Soon and Isaac to Simpang Ampat (an hour from Penang island) for food and fun, catch up with my namesake Philip Khor at Gurney over coffee, went to Hug Cafe at KOMTAR (instagrammable cafe), had food tasting at Gelugor with Peter Wong, a petrol station manager. Went for a choir recital at St. Xavier’s Institution, Penang (dad’s alma mater)

And now it’s Q4/2024 – October, my birth month.

I think I’m living the dream, going out with friends, colleagues and road tripping. It’s the monsoon season now, so it’s raining heavily and flooded in some areas. My KL highlight was having Jollibee with my Filipino colleagues. That was fun. And later going to that Filipino market at Puduraya. Not to mention the impromptu Genting Trip seeing the casinos and enjoying cool air.

The Tambun fruit stall number 11 is my dad’s favourite. Sure, it may cost RM20-30 a fruit, but dad seems to enjoy pomelo. For the record, Aun Kheng Lim salted chicken stall now charges RM 33/bird. It’s nice and goes well with white rice. Work wise I got transferred to another team doing a different line of work. I miss my colleagues from my old team, and it’ll take time to warm up with the new bunch of friends. It’s a fluid environment, so if people get transferred to the night shift then they’ll be under a new team and new supervisor. Over the last 6 months I’ve been struggling. It sucks when I’m not aligned and not consistent in my work. I wish it could be better, but physically I’m not up there yet.

Dozo is a fun restaurant – a bit pricey but serves quality Japanese food. I like Azuma too for their exceptional service and great looking restaurant. Today is 18 October, Friday and I’ll be going on a few meals with friends over the weekend. If you haven’t listen to my music, quick, like and share philipkhor.com/music

I will report back again on 30th or 31st October for my monthly update. I hope you follow my socials @philipkhor.
